Deep Study Program 2008
Monthly Four-Hour Intensives
Second Sundays of each month
2 - 6 pm
January – December, 2008

WHAT?  These four-hour Sunday Intensives happen only once per month to allow you access to a Deep Study program without a challenging time commitment. The course will develop over the 12 months, but any given Sunday may be attended singly without having attended previous months.

WHO?  The course is geared to any student who wants to deepen his/her practice. Six month beginners and up are welcome. Teachers may receive a discount for bringing their students or student-teachers.

WHEN?  Each unit will run four hours from 2pm-6pm on the Second Sunday of each month. Do not be concerned with the length of time. There will be a break and relaxation practice.

WHERE? Classes will be held at Yoga On Centre and conducted by Sara Azarius and the staff of Yoga On Centre.

MAY 4th
Features In’s and Out’s of Inversions & ‘Light On Life’ Discussion

2-3:15 pm

Asana Class with emphasis on Inversion practice. This class will teach you all of the basic inverted postures and how to work safely and properly to build endurance and to develop understanding in your practice. Expansion of the ‘thick ribs’ in shoulder balance and variations (as taught last month) will be re-taught and further developed.
3:15-4:10pm
Modifications for Neck Problems and Shoulder Restrictions. While you are still mastering the classic versions of the inverted postures you can learn to practice supported versions of the inverted postures so that, regardless of your abilities or body’s restrictions, you may practice longer holds in the postures. Doing longer holds will allow you to benefit from the balancing of the endocrine and circulatory systems which requires time in the postures. (You may want to bring your camera for this segment.
4:20-5 pm
Snack and Discussion Group. After a 10 minute break Sara will lead a group discussion. You may have tea and a light snack. But be informed: Q&A may involve some asana participation for everyone. Prepare your questions in advance regarding Iyengar yoga, your own practice, yoga philosophy, etc. Bring Light on Life if you have it.
5-6 pm
Pranayama and Pratyahara. In this segment we will explore prop set ups and proper alignment for seated pranayama practice, then you will learn variations of setubandha sarvangasana for a deep restorative practice.
